Module Assessment: IC71143A Intellectual Property, Trademarks and Brands Assessment

A 3,000-word essay on a subject chosen from a set list of five thematic questions
below in consultation with the tutor. Unmarked individual and/or group presentations
will be required during the module as preparation for the assignment. Feedback will
be given by the tutor at the end of the presentations.
The thematic questions are:
1) Using specific examples from the luxury brands field, critically consider the
role of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
2) Consider different definitions of Traditional Knowledge and describe the main
forms of legislation designed to protect it with regard to the luxury brands field.
3) Consider carefully the tension between protecting traditional knowledge and the
development of luxury brands that use traditional intellectually property
knowledge.
4) Critically consider the major forms of legislation designed to protect luxury
brands while permitting creative opportunities.
5) With appropriate examples, please present what are the main challenges
associated with monitoring and enforcing luxury brand legal protection across
national borders.
Assessment Criteria
The module will be assessed with reference to the Institute’s Grading Criteria,
especially with regard to Content, Structure, Organization and Development, Style and
Presentation. Credit will be given for illustrations that capture the main elements of the
product created.
Requirements:
1. Your written assignment should be a minimum of 3,000 words and a
maximum of 3,300 words (excluding references). Please use Times New
Roman, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing.
2. Your assignment should be written in an academic style, including
references at the end of the document.
