You are required to produce a correctly referenced essay (using the Harvard referencing
system) on one of the essay topics indicated below.
1. Drawing upon Porter’s theory of national competitive advantage, outline the case for
government policies that would build national competitive advantage in biotechnology
in your country. What kinds of policies would you recommend that the government
should adopt? Are these policies at variance with free trade policies?
2. How does the internet affect international business activity and the globalisation of the
world economy?
3. Identify five current sustainability trends and critically assess its impact on
international trade.
4. How does inward foreign direct investment (FDI) help emerging economies and their
domestic industries.
