The assignment requires you to plan the production and introduction of a new product using a concurrent engineering approach. You should consider your product to be new to the market or at least a new variant of an existing product.
You must first decide on a product, it may be a: mobile phone, computer, electric drill, food mixer, electric kettle, pen, watch or anything you choose. Whichever product you select, it should have at least 10 component parts so that you are able to plan its production and describe the process planning requirements. If you select a complex product like an automobile, you can restrict your process planning to one of its sub-assemblies. Also describe the design and prototyping stage of the product development.
You are expected to cost out the project from the initial concept stage to delivery of the product. This includes the initial market survey; design, prototyping and test; design and creation of the manufacturing facilities; the cost of manufacturing operations; sales and delivery.
You must explain whether you will manufacture in your own factory or sub-contract the manufacture, how and where the product will be assembled? Whatever you decide to do, I still require the process planning and method of manufacture to be described. Also if you subcontract the manufacture I want to know how you will protect your product so that it cannot be stolen by the sub-contractors.
